Teaching traditional crafts and developing workshops in Adjara region

With the financial support of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports of Adjara, the association implemented the project "Teaching traditional crafts and developing workshops in Achara region". As part of the project, 5 workshops were selected by competition in different municipalities of the Adjara region, except for Batumi. Mainly, priority was given to the crafts fields that are in danger of being lost. About 30 apprentices were trained in all workshops and studied the craft for 4 months. In addition, trainings on workshop management and youth involvement were conducted for each workshop.

 

The winners of the project were:

  1. Temur Ardzenadze - village Dandalo, Keda municipality Chiboni workshop; The aim of the project was to teach the traditional musical instrument - chiboni - to the Adjarians. The master is one of the rare bearers of the field.
  2. Merab Sharashidze and Mekhdiresul Artmeladze - village of Khabelashvili, Shuakhevi municipality, folk instruments (fanduri, chonguri, doli) workshop;
  3. Shushana Gorgadze - village Ghorjomi, Khulo Municipality – Local type of Carpet Workshop; The project provided for the endangered village. Revival of Ghorjomi carpet weaving techniques and transfer of knowledge to local women.
  4. Yusuf Iremadze - village Ghorjomi, master of khulo kotkhos (kotkhos are wooden household for storing food); Kotkhos are traditional wooden storage boxes for food, which were widespread in Western Georgia, in Guri-Achara. The master is the only bearer of the mentioned tradition in the Achara region.
  5. Mirian Numanishvili - Sarfi, Khelvachauri municipality Lazuri boat workshop. The project aimed to teach about the endangered Lazuri wooden boats. The master selected in the Adjara region is the only one bearer of the field.
